Lip Injections September 14, 2019

When it comes to amplifying looks, I am the first to sign up. I have been so insecure for a long time about my tiny “bird lips”. After researching the ins and outs of lip injections, I jumped on the opportunity to sit down with Stephanie at Arabella Med Spa to learn more about the procedure. I found out that it is a fairly simple procedure (for the patient), So I decided to give it a try. I will have to admit, the thought of sticking needles into my lips is rather scary. The actual procedure was a breeze though.
What are lip injections?
Lip injections can subtly, or intensely, define and enhance the shape and size of your lips. In my case, I want to subtly enhance the size of my lips. I am not one that wants the typical Kim K look when going in for lip injections. I honestly want to enhance my lips so my lipstick goes on nicer and so you can actually see my lips in photos.
Lip injections/fillers can also be used to fill wrinkles around your mouth and lips.
My procedure would be done by Stephanie at Arabella Medical Spa in Yukon, Oklahoma. Stephanie did such a wonderful job with the injections. I am over-the-moon happy with my results and highly recommend her to anyone looking to have lip injections done.

What are the Benefits?
As previously stated, lip injections help plump and enhance your natural lips. It can help improve the volume as well as the over shape of your lips. Lip injections are also used as a way to decrease wrinkles around the mouth and lip area.
Before

Before the procedure, Stephanie and I talked about exactly what I was hoping to achieve with the lip injections. She then applied a layer of lidocaine numbing cream over my lips. The numbing cream takes around 15-20 minutes to fully take effect.
During the Procedure
The very first thing Stephanie did, as stated above, was apply a numbing cream all over my lips. She allowed this to stay on my face for around 15-20 minutes; until my lips were nice and numb.
After the numbing cream was wiped off, Stephanie started injecting the Volbella lip injections into the lower lip. She started on the right side and then moved to the left side to make sure both sides were even. The total amount of time spent on the actual injections was around 30 minutes.
After the procedure was complete, my lips looked great! The definitely had more volume. The lips immediately starte to swell as the procedure starts, so it is really hard to tell exactly how they are going to look once the swelling goes down. Most injectors recommend you come back in a week or so to see how your lips look and if they are still even or need more filler.
After the Procedure
I was sent home with a list of dos and don’ts from Stephanie. She said not to pucker for at least 48 hours after getting lip injections. I was also told not to massage the area for at least 48 hours. To my surprise, I learned that using a straw can make your lip injections dissolve faster. Which once you think about it, it totally makes sense. Going to the gym for the next few days was also off the table; which is no big deal for me. Stephanie warned me that my lips would get more swollen and may even bruise. So definitely schedule accordingly.
The Recovery
The recovery went great for me! By the following morning my lips were even more swollen. The morning after your injections is usually the most swelling you will see. I was delighted to discover that I didn’t have any bruising from the injections. Three days after I got the injections done, my lips were no longer swollen and only a tiny bit sore. By the 4th day, they were pain-free.

The price
The cost of lip injections starts at $400. It really depends on what kind of injections you get (I got Volbella) and how much product you end up using.
Would I do it again?
I would ABSOLUTELY, 100 TIMES, yes do this procedure again!! The pain was so tolerable and it actually boosted my self-esteem a lot!
Enjoy!
XOXO,
Taylor
